Learn how to produce a redaction or exemption log for your redacted files.
Redactions logs are important for communicating why certain information has been redacted from files that you release to the requester and/or the public. In some jurisdictions a redaction or exemption log may be required if you are redacting files, we recommend reviewing your local laws regarding your obligation to produce redaction or exemption logs. How to generate a redaction log for a single document:
- Login to your account and upload a file to a request
- Launch RapidReview or the standard redaction tool
- Redact the document and click Save or Finalize in the upper right hand corner
- The redaction log will be produced and attached automatically as the last page of the file
How to finalize a single document without generating a redaction log:
- Login to your account and upload a file to a request
- Launch RapidReview or the standard redaction tool
- Redact the document and click Print in the upper right hand corner
- Print the file to PDF and save to your desktop
- Upload the file to the request
How to generate redaction logs for multiple documents:
- Login to your account and upload files to a request
- Launch RapidReview
- Redact the documents and select the documents you want to finalize using the checkboxes to the left of the document cards
- Click the Finalize button on the right hand side of the page, keep the checkbox selected labeled "attach redaction logs to finalized documents"
- The redaction logs will be produced and attached automatically as the last page of the files
Note: If you are finalizing many files at a time the process that attaches the redaction logs will complete in batches. This can take up to 10 minutes to complete for large numbers of files.
How to finalize multiple documents without generating a redaction log:
- Login to your account and upload a file to a request
- Launch RapidReview
- Redact the documents and select the documents you want to finalize using the checkboxes to the left of the document cards
- Uncheck the checkbox labeled "attach redaction logs to finalized documents" on the right hand side of the page
- Click the Finalize button
