How do I invoice a requester?

Note: In order to invoice requesters and process payments through NextRequest you must purchase NextRequest's Payments module. If you are interested in the Payments module, please email info@nextrequest.com.

 

Depending on local laws, you may charge requesters for the cost of materials and/or time spent fulfilling their public records requests. With NextRequest's payment module, you can invoice requesters and accept their payments directly in NextRequest. All payments are processed by Stripe. NextRequest does not store your credit card information.

How to Invoice Requesters for the Cost of a Request

Once an invoice has been sent to a requester, they have the option of paying the invoice by credit card in NextRequest, or coordinating with you to pay using another method. Only one invoice can be active on a request at a time.

Steps for invoicing requesters for the cost of a request

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Go to the request that you want to receive payments for
  3. Click the Invoice button () in the upper right Screen Shot 2021-09-21 at 9.57.32 PM
  4. (Optional) Select a template from the drop-down
  5. Enter a message to the requester
  6. Enter the total cost that the requester is being invoiced for
  7. Click the SEND INVOICE button

 

 

How to Delete an Invoice

Steps for deleting an invoice

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Go to the request with the invoice
  3. Hover your cursor over the invoice in the request timeline
  4. Click the Delete icon () that appears
  5. Click OK

 

How to Mark an Invoice as Paid Offline

Requesters can pay an invoice directly in NextRequest however sometimes they may pay offline using another method. In that case you can manually mark an invoice as paid.

Steps for marking an invoice as paid offline

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Go to the request with the invoice
  3. Locate the invoice entry in the request information box on the left
  4. Click the Mark Paid icon ()
  5. Click OK
